You don’t need to spend a ton of money on fancy sensory toys to have an amazing time. With some cheerios, spaghetti and food coloring Becca and I were able to do a few activities that kept her awake and occupied AND helped her work on her motor skills - and since we only used items in the food pantry, she can’t get sick if she happens to eat any of it (though Efrain and I discourage eating it anyway so she doesn’t think she can eat items when they aren’t actually edible). Here are three activities that we did:

1. Abstract art

2. “Stringing” (use the spaghetti as your “string” and your cheerios as your “beads”)

3. Making sand (we crushed some by hand and smashed some with a mallet)

And at the end of it all, you can see my “mom hands”.

Becca had an amazing time and it kept her awake and alert in those few hours between school and dinner. Sensory play for the win!
